When To Replace Professional Inline Skate Wheels & Bearings
Let’s talk about when to replace professional inline skate wheels or quad roller skates wheels for your skates so if you’ve been using your skates a lot and you want to keep using them but the wheels are starting to be too warm than it’s time to replace the wheel so there’s two things that you want to look for in a wheel.
One the size of the professional inline skate wheels which is measured by millimeters and the second is the surface of the wheel which is measured by durometer.
So the first thing you need to do is, you need to look at the wheels that are around your skate and look at the skate and determine if you want to replace the same size of wheels or if you want to try to an upgrade wheel to the next size. Before you plan to upgrade, check if your skate frame supports the same … like in an image below, you can see the size is written on the skate in case you are using professional inline skates
But in case you are using quad roller skates, most of the wheels will fit into the frame.

| 65 mm x 35 mm | 66 mm x 38 mm |
Selection in both the cases (Inline & Quad) depends upon the surface you are using. Apart from surface, one also need to look for the wheel size they need but only in case of Inline and that too depends upon the area they are skating on.
Note: Small Area (75 Mtr. Etc) Small Wheels like 90mm or 100 mm in Inline will work better.
If you want to increase the performance, you would buy a larger wheel but if you are happy with the performance of your skate wheels than just replace the inline wheels with existing wheel size that you have.
Just look at the chart below to have an idea about quad roller skate wheels hardness and the surface they will work better with …

You can go with any brand of wheels. Wheels are all comparable and all bearings and all skate. That’s not really a problem but do consult with someone who have better experience in selecting wheels.
The second thing you want to look at the durometer of the wheel.
The durometer are the measurements of the softness of the professional inline skate wheels.
The softness comes into play when you want your wheel to be very grippy on the cement so that you get the most power with your wheel but you don’t want the wheel too soft if you’re heavier in weight.
The reason why the higher durometer is better especially if you go up in weight is because if you put too much weight on soft wheels, that wheel will actually start to go flat because the wheel is so soft and a flat wheel is not going to roll as well as round wheel. So, here you need to buy atleast 80A, 82A hardness wheels
so as you go up in weight, you should go for harder wheel as that we’ll allow the wheel to stay round and give you best performance possible.
Below are few other points to consider before buying inline competition wheels or quad roller skates competition wheels.
Acceleration:
- Small Diameter – Fast Acceleration – Takes Less Efforts to Roll
- Big Diameter – Slow Acceleration – Takes More Efforts to Roll
Speed:
- Small Diameter – Better acceleration but slow in long races
- Big Diameter – Slow acceleration but once start rolling, it gets better and better over slow diameter wheels.
Stability:
- Small Diameter – better stability
- Big Diameter – less stable than small diameter wheels.

It’s really best if you replace your wheels, replace your bearings and you buy the both together or separately but that will give you the best performance as you will get a fresh set of bearings along with your fresh set of wheels.
