National Games 2020 in the Country Will Not Start Before August
The Union Sports Ministry is working towards the return of sports. Suggestions are being sought from the National Federation for this. Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju. Sports Secretary Ravi Mittal and DG Sai Sandeep Pradhan are constantly meeting with the Secretary and Presidents of Sports Federation. He recently discussed about national games 2020 with the Sports Federation more than 15 times.
What Federations Think
Most of the federations admitted that there is little hope of starting sports activities in the country before August. But because the cases of Kovid-19 have been continuous and there are problems with traffic too. Therefore, the Federation is planning to return to August-September.
Due to Corona, the School Games Federation can Allow National of Only High Priority Games, and only U-19 Players will be Given Priority.
The Decision
The School Games Federation of India can conduct national tournament of Olympic, High Priority and Priority Games only this year. Schools are closed due to Corona and the players’ practice is still negligible. SGFI has said that the final decision on the organization of the Games will be taken after getting permission from the Central Government.
Recently the SGFI has received recognition from the Government of India. Last year, national tournaments of over 90 games were held and more than 60 thousand players from all over the country participated in it.
SGFI General Secretary Rajesh Mishra said that schools are still closed even after Unlock 1. SGFI can conduct tournaments after getting permission from the government. Most national tournaments take place between November to January. States can make their teams either on the basis of last year’s performance or on a trial basis.
